YouTube on Sept. 12 launched vertical video ads, a format already offered by Facebook, Instagram, Spotify and, of course, Snapchat.\u00a0Marketers said they expect YouTube\u2019s to be used differently from Instagram\u2019s and Snapchat\u2019s, though.<\/p>\n

Since the ads appear as pre-roll before a YouTube video, they\u2019re similar to the TV-like ads already on YouTube rather than those on Snapchat and Instagram that encourage people to swipe up.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople just don\u2019t use YouTube in the same way. When I\u2019m on Instagram, my fingers are flying. On YouTube, you\u2019re more holding the phone and watching,\u201d said Mark Douglas, CEO of ad tech company SteelHouse.<\/p>\n
